Acromyrmex is a genus of New World ants of the subfamily Myrmicinae. This genus is found in South America and parts of Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean Islands, and contains 35 known species.
They are fungus-growing ants (members of the tribe Attini) and one of the three genera of that group known as “leafcutter ants” for their leaf-cutting behavior (the other genera being Atta and Amoimyrmex).
